Why the owner split four Da Nang nights and five in Hoi An
Hoi An first appeared to be a one-day extension of Da Nang, but repeat Vietnam travel and actual stays changed that view. On the source trip, the owner gave Hoi An an extra night and experienced more than one style of accommodation.
The lesson is not that everyone needs five nights. It is that a day trip omits the quiet morning, the late hours after excursion groups leave, and a restorative pause during the hottest part of the day.
When a day trip is the right choice
With roughly three nights total, and when avoiding a hotel change is the priority, an afternoon old-town walk, dinner and evening lights make an efficient excursion. Keeping luggage in one room is a genuine advantage.
Many visitors arrive in the same late-afternoon window, so the riverfront and night market are at their busiest. A prebooked return imposes a deadline; an on-demand ride introduces waiting and variable pricing.
What one night unlocks: early morning and late evening
An overnight stay makes an early walk through old-town lanes, the market and cafés possible before the peak. It also lets you check in, rest through the heat and return when the sun is lower.
Without a late drive back to Da Nang, dinner and the evening walk take on a different pace. The decision is whether that time quality is worth one room change and another night's rate.
Connect the old town, An Bang and resort time
Staying in Hoi An does not mean repeating the old town. Give each period a role: morning lanes, pool or rest in the heat, An Bang later, then an evening meal.
The best areas to stay depend on purpose: old-town access for late walks, An Bang for beach days, or a resort when on-property time matters. Check shuttle schedules and real transfer times before deciding.
Price the one-way move and the changeover day together
When checking out of Da Nang and moving to Hoi An, delete the day-trip return fare. Price one leg to Hoi An and the later leg to the airport or next hotel, confirming that the vehicle can take the luggage.
